The psalms have played a central part in the prayer life and public worship of Jews and Christians since the earliest times. This series of five talks will look at how the psalms explore the relationship between God and humanity. We will be looking at understandings from the past and also at how the language and prayer life of the psalms speak to us today. Asking, calling out, listening, responding to the immediacy of God's presence, and offering praise are as much part of our life as they have always been.
Five Sunday evenings
7.15 - 8.15p.m.
beginning
Sunday 21 February, 2010
The talks build together into a whole but can also be attended individually, if you wish. There will be opportunities for questions each time. Speakers will be Gervase Holdaway OSB of Douai Abbey, Richard Newman and Sheila Newman.
A short ecumenical service will follow each of the talks. If you would like to stay for the service you are very welcome.
There is no charge for admission to the talks.
